Water Damage Restoration in Ormond Beach, FL

We take water damage restoration work in Ormond Beach, about 64 minutes from central St. Augustine down I-95 in normal traffic. That is a long drive and we will not dress it up, so tell us the street and we will give you a real time. What sets Ormond Beach apart is how its water arrives: during Ian, most flooding came from high tide and high river and creek levels, not rain falling on the street.

Trips down I-95 to Granada Boulevard

Expect a little over an hour, door to door, when traffic behaves. That is long for a running leak, so close the main before we set off. We take I-95 south to Exit 268 and SR 40, Granada Boulevard. Your call goes straight to owner Dal Beggs, who runs the company with his son. Emergencies can come in at any time, and general questions suit the hours of 7am to 7pm.

If tide water is moving, check the next high tide before anything else. Then shut off power to wet rooms only if you can reach the panel on dry ground, and take photos.

When we arrive, we assess the damage and give a free estimate, with no hard sell. You receive a moisture map, daily readings and a written scope before heavy work.

Tomoka River and Halifax River: where Ian went

Learn your water source, because each one behaves differently. The city's floodplain page lists tidal surge from hurricanes, nor'easters and tropical storms, plus streams and swamps overflowing after rain. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals at Daytona Beach International Airport, just south, add 51.3 inches of rain a year, with September the wettest month at 7.2. Public Works staff estimated that 15 to 20 percent of city streets had some flooding at one point. Wilmette Avenue, John Anderson Drive, Tomoka Oaks and Fleming Avenue were among the streets reported, along with neighborhoods near the Performing Arts Center. West of I-95, Hunter's Ridge and Breakaway Trails also took water.

On the river side, Shockney Drive in Tomoka Estates, in the Ormond Beach area, had water lines of 2 to 3 feet in many homes as the Tomoka and a canal merged. The county's public works director said the area was marshland filled in the 1960s. On the Halifax side, Rockefeller Gardens and Fortunato Park went under.

Keep the scale honest. The city's preliminary data showed fewer than 20 homes with interior flooding, against the 60 to 70 it estimated for 2009. Those few homes still need Category 3 handling, so we scope porous materials for removal.

Water damage restoration in Ormond Beach's Central Park lakes and Laurel Creek

Learn how the middle of town drains. The city lowered the Central Park lakes about a foot before Ian to free up storage. City records list stormwater retrofits on Hammock Lane, Division Avenue, John Anderson Drive, Arbor Drive and Hand Avenue, and a pump station at the end of Bennett Lane on Laurel Creek.

Those works help, but they are no promise for one lot. John Anderson Drive was still among the streets reported in Ian, and the city set portable pumps on Fleming Avenue. If water reaches your floor, photograph it, then tell us which creek or street it came from.

Beach Street permits and our Volusia coverage

Ask the city before large repairs. The Building Division works from 22 South Beach Street, the Planning Department handles floodplain questions from Room 104 on weekdays from 8am to 5pm, and the city's 50 percent rule applies when repairs reach half of market value. Whoever does permitted work pulls the permit, and our written scope and readings go to them. See water damage repair for how the put-back gets organized.

We have no reviews or project photos from Ormond Beach yet. We state only what is true: Volusia County is in our service area, this route is I-95 to Granada Boulevard, and the drive is about 64 minutes.

Ormond Beach questions

Why did parts of Ormond Beach flood 12 hours after Ian had passed?

Because the tide came back. The city's public works director told the Observer that the worst flooding around the Performing Arts Center arrived about 12 hours after the storm, with the next high tide pushing in from Strickland Creek. So do not move furniture back when the rain stops. Check the tide table first, and treat the first dry hour with suspicion.

How do I check my Ormond Beach flood zone?

Use the city's flood zone lookup or FEMA's map service. The city lists A, AE, AO, V and VE as the high-risk zones, and its floodplain page says FEMA's preliminary maps propose no changes inside city limits. Also ask the Building Division about the 50 percent rule, since repairs at or above half your home's market value must meet current code and the floodplain ordinance.
