Water Damage Restoration in Atlantic Beach, FL

We handle water damage restoration in Atlantic Beach, about 57 minutes from central St. Augustine up the A1A corridor in normal traffic. That is one of the longer runs in Duval County for us, so we will be plain about timing when you call. The surprise here is that the worst flood record sits inland of the dunes, along Hopkins Creek and in Aquatic Gardens.

Hopkins Creek and Aquatic Gardens: rain floods here

Start with the creek, not the surf. City presentations describe a basin of about 340 acres draining through Hopkins Creek along Atlantic Boulevard. Aquatic Gardens was among the last areas developed, likely because the land is low. A 2.3-inch storm in one hour was enough to overtop the ditch and flood streets, and undersized culverts restrict flow. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the Mayport station, just north of town, show 48.5 inches of rain a year, with about 73 days reaching a tenth of an inch or more.

State funding requests cite 130 homes flooded in November 2015. The city's first phase of relief replaces the box culvert on Aquatic Drive and reshapes part of the ditch, with a contract running from September 2025. Treat the risk as unchanged until the city says otherwise.

Runoff tops a grassy ditch and spreads toward a low street.

Creek water is not clean water. The city won a $184,250 state grant to protect the Cavalla Road lift station and keep sewage out of Hopkins Creek in severe storms. That is why we read any street water indoors as Category 3 and scope porous materials for removal.

What a call looks like from the far end of A1A

We answer directly. Your call reaches owner Dal Beggs, who runs the company with his son, at any hour for an emergency. For questions that can wait, 7am to 7pm suits us.

The 57 minutes is real, so use it. Close the main, keep clear of electrical panels near water, and shoot photos and video of every wet room.

We then walk the home with moisture meters and thermal imaging and give a free estimate, with no pressure. If you hire us, you receive a moisture map, daily readings and a written scope before heavy work, and we keep drying until materials match dry ones elsewhere in the house.

Water damage restoration in Atlantic Beach: ditches, culverts and after-hours utilities

Learn the system that carries water past your house. The city's Stormwater Utility counts more than 14.4 miles of ditches, 22 miles of piped storm drains and 930 catch basins. When the ditch outside runs full, lift rugs and electronics before the water reaches the door.

After hours, the Public Utilities line goes to an answering service that contacts on-duty staff, and the city says they may take up to an hour to arrive. A leak at the meter or in the right-of-way is theirs to look at. The city also lists a septic-to-sewer conversion among its featured projects, so check whether your street is still on a tank before you assume a backup belongs to the city.

Selva Marina, Seminole Beach and Seminole Road permits

Know what kind of house you are drying. Atlantic Beach grew from summer homes around Flagler's 1901 Continental Hotel, incorporated in 1925, and added Selva Marina's residential community after its club opened in 1958. Seminole Beach joined in 1987, and in 1996 the western boundary moved out to the Intracoastal Waterway. A 2024 city workshop called the city essentially built out, so old and new homes share the same streets.

The Building Division works from 800 Seminole Road, and its forms include a floodplain development permit application. Fire and rescue come from Jacksonville, not the city. We have no Atlantic Beach reviews or project photos yet, so all we claim is coverage of Duval County, our A1A route and the drive above.

Atlantic Beach questions

Why would an Atlantic Beach home flood when the ocean stayed calm?

Because the Hopkins Creek basin floods from rain. The city has described about 340 acres draining through the creek, with undersized culverts that restrict flow, and a 2.3-inch storm in one hour that overtopped the ditch. State funding requests cite 130 homes flooded in November 2015. If street water came indoors, treat it as Category 3 until proven otherwise.

Who helps me find the water shut-off at my Atlantic Beach house?

Start at the meter, then call the city's Public Utilities Department if you cannot find the valve. The city offers that help by phone. Do this before we arrive, because water keeps running during our 57-minute drive. If the leak sits past the shut-off, or the valve will not turn, tell us when you call so we can plan around it.
